For shorter intervals, age didn't change much. But for longer ones, a clear pattern emerged. People over 40 consistently perceived time as moving faster, and when asked to reflect on their lives, they reported that time had felt slow in childhood and then accelerated steadily ever since.
Forty, it turns out, is roughly when that acceleration becomes impossible to ignore.

For the first time in your life, you have enough past to look back on and enough future to worry about losing.
